Virgin flight VS43 from Gatwick Airport to Las Vegas made national news in December 2014 when it spent four hours circling in the air before it could make an emergency landing back at Gatwick.
A technical fault was reported with one of the four landing gears shortly after take-off but the plane could not land straight away, instead having to burn off fuel to reduce the chances of a fire if the plane made a crash landing.
More than 20 ambulances and eight fire engines were sent to the scene and police closed roads around Gatwick as a precaution.
