Plans to sell the naming rights to the tower - it will be called the Emirates Spinnaker Tower - were approved by the city council to gain additional income.
The airline brand is thought to want to acquire the rights in time for the city's America's Cup World Series sailing event in July.
The company's name is expected to be displayed on the exterior of the tower.
The naming rights will be for five years, with the first changes to branding and signage in place by 17 July.
