EMERGENCY United B738 suffers engine shut down in flight over Pacific

A United Boeing 737-800, N14235 was performing flight UA183 (1st Jan) from Guam to Manila with 146 passengers and 6 crew and was flying at 36,000ft over the Pacific Ocean and was about 70 minutes into the flight when the right hand engine needed to be shut down.

The aircraft then drifted down to 22,000ft which then the crew turned around and returned to Guam for a safe landing 150 minutes after departure.

A replacement B738 reached Manila as flight UA2050 with a delay of 6 and a half hours.

The incident aircraft returned to service the next day (2nd Jan) at 22:20 (local).

United Airlines confirmed that the return to Guam was caused by an 'engine issue'
