Flight AA1654 departed from DFW Airport at 5 p.m., headed for Baltimore/Washington International Airport.
Shortly after takeoff, the pilot declared an emergency due to a landing gear issue.
The MD82 made a low-approach fly-by of the airport so officials in the air traffic control tower could perform a visual check of the landing gear. They advised the gear appeared normal, the FAA said.

The aircraft was en route from Chicago to Warsaw when the captain declared declared an emergency after apparently smelling smoke.
The Boeing 787, which has been grounded in the past over safety fears, made a safe landing around 11.35am.

NEWS An other WestJet Flight to Canada Makes Emergency Landing
Airport spokeswoman says the flight crew for Thursday's flight 1709 to Victoria, British Columbia, worried the plane might have a fuel leak shortly after it took off around 3:18 p.m.
The Boeing 737 with 126 people on board returned to the airport at 3:31 p.m. and landed without incident. The Clark County Fire Department gave the all-clear shortly afterward. Officials say no other flights were delayed.

An Air France Airbus A380 — the world's largest passenger airliner — was diverted to Halifax on Thursday after a passenger died on the plane.
The plane was travelling from Paris to New York when a 58-year-old American man was found dead, according to Nova Scotia RCMP.
Sgt. Alain LeBlanc said the man died of natural causes. Once RCMP determined the man was deceased, the medical examiner was called in.
The Airbus A380 is the largest passenger jet in the world.Officials at the Halifax Stanfield International Airport said it's the first time an aircraft of that size has ever stopped in Halifax.
The flight, AF006, arrived in Halifax at 3:59 p.m. AT, according to the airline's website.
The passengers were not taken off the plane, said airport spokesperson Peter Spurway.
The flight departed Halifax at 5:31 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive in New York at 6:31 p.m, said the website.

NEWS Emirates to double A380 services to Mauritius ahead of schedule
Emirates will launch its second daily A380 service to Mauritius on October 26th this year, instead of December 1st as initially planned. This second A380 service, which will operate as flight EK703/704, replaces the existing Boeing 777 operation and will have a capacity of 489 passengers including 14 luxurious First Class Private Suites, 76 lie-flat beds in Business Class and 399 spacious seats in Economy Class.

Global distribution platform Travelport Worldwide has priced shares in its initial public offering at the top end of expectations, valuing the company at $1.9 billion. The Blackstone Group-backed company will offer 30 million shares at $16 when it floats, seeking to raise $480 million.

Pilots at Air France have been out on strike for ten days over perceived threat to their positions after the airline revealed plans to expand the low-cost subsidiary.

LATAM Airlines Group, the largest airline group in South America, has announced plans to launch new international flights in 2015. This initiative will strengthen the connectivity offered by the group in Latin America, North America and Europe. In Europe, the end of 2015 will see a new daily route launch between Milan and Santiago de Chile, via Sao Paulo.

A cross-country flight from Boston to Los Angeles had to make an unscheduled landing in Omaha, Nebraska, because one of the passengers was allegedly masturbating.
Doug Adams, 26, was removed from the Virgin Airlines flight he was on Monday morning after the plane made an emergency landing because of a patient having a "medical emergency."
Witnesses said that Adams had a hospital bracelet on his wrist and appeared to be on drugs.
A police report obtained by NBC Bay Area stated that Adams, of Woodside, California, “masturbating in flight and later tried to open an exit door.”

NEWS Virgin America flight makes emergency landing in Nebraska after passenger attempts to open exit door
A commercial airplane traveling from Boston to Los Angeles made an emergency landing in Nebraska on Monday, officials said.
The Federal Aviation Administration said the Virgin America flight made the unscheduled landing Monday morning at Omaha's Eppley Airfield following a medical emergency on board.
The agency didn't provide additional details, but passengers say a man had tried to open an emergency exit door.

NEWS Dubai International bounces back to full capacity
Passenger traffic at Dubai International bounced back from a three-month slump resulting from a major runway upgrade project which concluded on July 20th, to register a record 6.6 million passengers in August 2014. The monthly passenger traffic at Dubai International reached 6,648,058 in August 2014, up 10.8 per cent compared to 5,999,375 recorded in the corresponding month in 2013.
